On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the Waco Community Race Relations Coalition, in conjunction with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., were honored to host Ms. Opal Lee for an evening of reflection on her amazing body of work in the field of social justice and reconciliation. Before a standing-room-only crowd in the Parish Hall at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Ms. Lee regaled the audience with stories and remembrances of her life. She was the driving force behind Juneteenth being recognized as a national holiday, which will be forever her legacy. It was a truly amazing, uplifting and important night. Here is the story of her life as presented by Steve Hartman on CBS Sunday Morning.
